Economic Federalism and Governance Program

(A) Country Context

Myanmar’s political landscape has undergone profound changes, impacting not only state-building but also nation-building. The Federal Democracy Charter has emerged as a key roadmap for shaping a future federal democratic union, running parallel to and challenging the military-drafted 2008 Constitution. However, the country’s future will continue to be shaped by one of the world’s longest-running civil wars, alongside the ongoing Spring Revolution. Myanmar must prepare to address emerging national challenges in building an inclusive society, effective governance, and a functioning system of fiscal federalism.

(B) Program Overview

In response, Inya Economics has launched the Economic Federalism and Governance Program (EFGP) to address current and anticipated gaps in these areas. The program is designed to align with today’s complex realities while laying the groundwork for a future federal democratic system.

(C) Program Objectives

  1. Develop the next generation of leaders and politicians with strong knowledge of economic, governance, and fiscal federalism issues, enabling them to navigate complex challenges and contribute effectively to reforms.
  2. Promote inclusive and participatory governance by strengthening public engagement in policy-making and decision-making processes.
  3. Support evidence-based research and innovation to address key challenges in governance, economic policy, and digital transformation.
